Questions from Octopus customers

Is this the official Octopus app?

No. Current Spot is an independent app that I build on my own. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by Octopus Energy. It uses the public Octopus API with your permission.

Do I need an Octopus account?

No. Pick your region and you get Agile prices, the cheapest blocks and carbon intensity. Your account adds your own tariff, usage, bills and live power. Connect your account

Where do I find my API key?

On the Octopus website: sign in, open your dashboard, then personal details and API access. Your account number (A- followed by 8 characters) is shown on the dashboard. Inside the app you can also sign in and let Current Spot find both.

Is my API key safe?

The key can only read your account. It is stored in the Keychain on your device and not synced to iCloud. You can disconnect at any time.

Why don't I see live power?

Live power needs an Octopus Home Mini paired with your smart meter. Without it, usage arrives from your smart meter with a delay, usually the next day.

When do tomorrow's Agile prices arrive?

Octopus publishes them in the afternoon, usually around 4 pm. Current Spot picks them up and tells you about the cheapest block.

Which tariffs are supported?

Agile, Agile Outgoing, Tracker, Go, Intelligent Go, Cosy, Flexible, Fixed and gas. All tariffs in detail

Does it work on Android or Wear OS?

There is an Android version, and Octopus support is being tested on Google Play right now. Write to me if you'd like to try it.

I'm with Octopus outside the UK. Does it work for me?

Not yet with your account. Octopus in Europe
